Media Hails Pete Buttigieg as the First Openly Gay Cabinet Member Not Named Ric Grenell
WASHINGTON, D.C. – After a successful Senate confirmation yesterday, numerous media outlets immediately praised
the Biden Administration for its diversity for installing Pete Buttigieg as the first openly gay Presidential cabinet
member in US history.
That is, except for Ric Grenell, who served as the acting Director of National Intelligence in the Trump Administration.
CBS, NBC, and the Washington Post evidently forgot about him.
When confronted with their oversight, the news organizations became a bit testy.
“Grenell doesn’t count,” replied a spokesperson for NBC. “Trump picked Grenell because he was capable, not because he
was gay. So Trump shouldn’t get any credit for breaking any glass ceilings.”
“It is vital for national security that people see Biden as a breath of fresh air compared to Trump,” added a CBS
spokesperson. “So when writing the story, we have to weigh that factor against the factual details.”
A spokesperson for the Washington Post complained that this oversight was “insignificant", and that "pointing it out
was just a cheap attempt to distract from Biden’s great achievement in diversity.”
Eventually the news organizations begrudgingly corrected their reports, and instead began praising the Biden Administration
for having the first openly gay cabinet member that’s left-handed.
