Democrats Complain that Investigating All Mistakes in the COVID-19 Response is a Distraction from Just Blaming Trump

Chuck Schumer pointing his finger at finger-pointers.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Democrats on Capitol Hill are blasting Trumps criticism of how China and the WHO handled the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic, and claim that any attempt to comprehensively investigate all the mistakes in the response is just a distraction, and the only mistakes that should be analyzed are Trumps.

“All Trump is doing is finger-pointing,” said Senator Chuck Schumer, pointing his finger.

A spokesperson for Nancy Pelosi offered similar comments.

“What good does it do to look back and criticize what people did or didn’t do in the past?” Pelosi’s spokesperson asked. “So the WHO spent two weeks ignoring alerts from Taiwan about human-to-human transmission? So China silenced doctors and delayed reporting how contagious it was? That’s ancient history. Does pointing this out bring any of the dead back? It doesn’t matter that as late as March 11, Mayor De Blasio was still telling New Yorkers to go out on the town, or that until May Governor Cuomo was forcing New York nursing homes to take in patients infected with Covid, forcing the virus into the living areas of our most vulnerable people. So what? Does highlighting this help find a vaccine? No. The only mistakes worth looking back on are Trumps.”

A spokesperson for the New York Times agreed with the Democratic perspective:

“Now is not the time to be political, point fingers, or be divisive. Instead, we must all come together, and work together as a nation, to all blame Trump and the Republicans.”
