Socialist AOC Doesn't Want the DCCC to Decide How to Spend Her Money
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Democratic Socialist Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has angered fellow Democrats by refusing to pay her dues
to the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC).
"I don't want some higher authority controlling my money," the socialist said. "I want to personally decide what it's spent on."
The DCCC is the campaign arm of House Democrats. Its purpose is to support key Democratic House candidates, including many moderates.
AOC disagrees with this, preferring to give her support to new progressive democratic candidates who want to challenge moderate incumbent Democrats.
"The DCCC wants to spend my money in ways I disagree with, so I shouldn't have to give it to them," said AOC. "It's my right as
a socialist to decide how to spend my own money, not to be forced to give it to a central organization that has different priorities than I have."
"The Democratic Party will never be able to advance Democratic Socialism if we keep forcing individuals to relinquish control to a centralized authority."
