Congress Surprised to Learn They Could Actually Change the Immigration Laws Trump is Enforcing

WASHINGTON, D.C. – As protests erupted all over the country over Trumps planned implementation of court-ordered deportations, Democrats in Congress were surprised to learn they could actually change the laws that President Trump was enforcing.

"What Trump is doing is wrong," said a spokesperson for Nancy Pelosi. "He's deporting innocent people for no reason!"

A reporter pointed out that the planned ICE raids were all for illegal immigrants who already had their day in court. In their cases, the court ruled that the law was clear, the individuals were in violation of it, and ordered that they be deported.

"That doesn't matter," the spokesperson replied. "Trump should ignore the law and the court order."

Another reporter asked, "Does that include the laws that says he can't build a wall without Congress approving the funding, or make people wait in Mexico for their amnesty hearings?"

"No!" exclaimed the spokesperson. "That's against the law! And we have a court order!"

Pelosi's spokesperson was asked if a better approach would be to change the immigration laws.

"Sure," said the spokesperson. "If only we could find a governing body in the position to re-write the laws, we could fix this."

Incredulously, the reporters informed the spokesperson that the Constitution gives the House and Senate the power to write laws, and that Nancy Pelosi is the Speaker of the House.

"That's another Trump lie," scoffed Pelosi's spokesperson. "He's trying to blame Congress for the laws he's enforcing."

The spokesperson concluded by saying, "Ms. Pelosi is trying to determine who is charged with writing laws in this country. In the meantime, Trump needs to ignore the laws we tell him to."
